Do Your Part To Stop The
Spread Of Conjunctivitis
A
thin membrane that covers the inner portion of the eyelid and also
protects the front part of the eye is
called the conjunctiva. If inflammation occurs in the conjunctiva then
the condition is known as conjunctivitis. This disease is contagious in
nature, so it is very important that you do your part to stop the
spread of conjunctivitis.
Conjunctivitis
can be viral or bacterial in nature and in some cases it might be due
to an allergy. In case
of viral conjunctivitis, the eyelid swells and there is also watery
discharge from the eye. Whereas bacterial conjunctivitis results in
yellowish
discharge or in some cases even greenish discharge from the eye. The
moment a family member gets infected by the disease the entire family
becomes infected. So if you are suffering from conjunctivitis then it
is very important for you to take precautionary measures; do your part
to
stop the spread of conjunctivitis.
It
is not difficult to figure out conjunctivitis; the symptoms can be
easily diagnosed. The moment you start
having some itching sensation in your eye and you observe some redness
in your eye then it is a signal that you are suffering from
conjunctivitis. You will have swollen eyelids, the vision will get
blurred and there will be watery discharge from your eyes.
If
you are suffering from viral conjunctivitis then the chances of
spreading the disease is more. The water
discharge from the eye, coughing and sneezing may spread the disease.
Bacterial ones spread through the pus from the eyes and also by flies.
Maintaining cleanliness is very important, if you want to do your part
to stop the spread of conjunctivitis and here are helpful
tips:
1)
Wash your hands carefully; never touch any items of the household if
you have touched your eyes. The other
family members should not use the towels, handkerchief or other items
which are presently being used by the infected person. You got to do
your
part to stop the spread of conjunctivitis; stop going to schools,
colleges, work places and other public places when you are infected by
the
disease.
2)
Although proper cleanliness and eye drops help to cure the disease, it
is better to get in touch with a
doctor. You should know with what kind of conjunctivitis you are
suffering with-viral, bacterial or allergic. The doctor may prescribe
antibiotic
medicine, eye drops or other required medicines for the purpose.
3)
If the inflammation stops within three days then well and good but if
it continues, you need to look into
consulting with your doctor again. It may be a possibility that the
doctor may prescribe some oral medication. Never ever leave the
condition
untreated because it may create severe complications in the future.
Infection in the eyelids, tear ducts and cornea can have adverse impact
on
your vision.
Conjunctivitis
is a common disease and people do get infected by it. So you do your
part to stop the spread
of conjunctivitis so that the others do not suffer from the same
symptoms and discomfort that you had to go through.
